Recommended Repertoire and Instrumentation

Here you will find a list of pieces recommended for study by instrumental instructors. These are works from the 20th and 21st centuries that they themselves have in their repertoire, represent essential works from the world and the Czech repertoire for the given instrument, or appear in competition or audition requirements.

The pieces are recommended, not mandatory. You can therefore come to the Academy with a different repertoire that was composed after 1900. However, late Romantic pieces are not preferred.

You also have the unique opportunity to study compositions by contemporary composers Kryštof Mařatka and Jan Dušek directly with them.

The lecturers may add to the individual lists on an ongoing basis. If you subscribe to the newsletter, you will always be up to date.

Composers have access to the Dobrohoř Academy 2026 ensemble and are encouraged to compose a piece that makes maximum use of:

  • 3 flutes (3 participants)
  • 3 Bb and A clarinets (3 participants)
  • piano (maximum 6 hands on one instrument recommended, i.e. 3 participants or lecturers), non-invasive preparations may be used (preparation max. 5 minutes)

We recommend sending scores and parts of finished and unfinished compositions at least 1 month before the start of the Academy so that they can be provided to participants and lecturers for study.

During the Academy, composers will have the opportunity to consult with lecturers in the composition and instrumental fields and study their works with participants under their guidance.

It is also possible to create new compositions during the Academy. Still, there is no guarantee that they will be performed at any of the concerts due to their potential complexity.

Lecturers are, of course, also available to work on compositions with different instrumentation, but these cannot be performed.
